dimmock wins KPMG Women’s Irish Open
The 2024 KPMG Women’s Irish Open was held at Carton House, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, welcomed over 37,000 spectators and saw England’s Annabel Dimmock come out on top.
Annabel Dimmock:
Dimmock shot a sensational second round of 66 (-7) to set the course record and followed it up with a third round of 65 (-8) to beat her own course record on route to claiming the KPMG Women’s Irish Open trophy. A four-round total of –19 put her on top of the leaderboard alongside France’s Pauline Roussin-Bouchard. After a nail-biting 2-hole play-off, a par was enough to make Dimmock champion which led to her claiming her second title on the Ladies European Tour.
KPMG Women’s Irish Open Champion, Annabel Dimmock said: “I’m a bit shell shocked at the minute. I’m not going to lie. I’m standing here and I think I’m in a dream. I’m just over the moon right now.
This is pretty cool to do it in Ireland. The fans out there and the people watching were amazing to me this week. They really cheered me on and its kind of what I needed because I haven't had an easy couple of weeks. I felt like I’ve been playing well for a while you know the documentary came out, I think a couple of days ago maybe on the second day when I shot 7 under actually and you know it was a bit sad the documentary and I don't want it to be a sad story.
I've worked really hard to get myself back and I am proud of myself. It's not just me, there's a lot of people on my team. There's Alfie, all my friends at home, my family. There's a lot that goes into getting me back fit. There's a lot of blood, sweat and tears. It’s not been easy for him. It’s not been easy for my family and everyone around me but we’ve made it back we’re good”
Attendance:
Carton House, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, was the perfect location for the third year of the event since its resurrection in 2022. This year saw a record number of spectators at the tournament. 37,000 people came through the golf course gates in Maynooth to witness world-class golf and a record number of 13 Irish players compete in the event.
The event:
This year’s event had something for everyone in the family. Carton House, a Fairmont Managed Hotel provided the players with a championship golf course and world-class facilities. The Friday of the event was in aid of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute and Play in Pink. We encouraged all our players and spectators to come in pink in order to turn the course pink in aid of this amazing charity. Saturday was a day for the family. We had live music, face painting, a kid's zone, ice cream and many more activities for the family.
The spectator village was packed all week as the sun was shining. The village was full of food and drink vendors, activities such as long putt, trackman simulators and nearest the pin competitions. A great place to relax and enjoy the golf when you came in from the course!
Sustainability:
Sustainability was at the core of the KPMG Women’s Irish Open. There was a full waste management system in place around the course which includes a Re-Turn scheme where you could return your plastic bottles and had the opportunity to donate to two charities, Breast Cancer Research Ireland and Special Olympics Ireland. The event was the first sporting event in Ireland to have this scheme in place.
This year’s event was a period positive tournament. We want all girls and women who menstruate to feel comfortable, so there were sanitary products places in all bathrooms and locker rooms for the players to use.
Tournament Director & CEO of ForeFront Group, Cian Branagan, said “This year’s event showcased to the world how incredible the KPMG Women’s Irish Open is and how much it means to our Irish players and golfing community - with 13 Irish players in field (a record for the event), 37,000 people through the gates (record attendance) and what really caught everyone’s attention, was how many young kids we had around the venue, truly inspiring the next generation!
I am so proud to be part of this journey, and we are all energised to bring this event to the next level for future years!”
